Who is Rosena Sammi?

Rosena Sammi is the Founder and CEO of The Jewelry Edit, a curated collection of ethically made jewelry from diverse designers across the globe. Before starting The Jewelry Edit, Rosena was a commercial litigation attorney-turned-jewelry designer of her namesake line, sold in leading department stores and worn by A-List celebrities like Rihanna and Blake Lively. After becoming disenchanted with the rise of fast fashion in the jewelry industry, she created The Jewelry Edit, a personal, meaningful, and empowering way to purchase jewelry.

In less than three sentences tell us about your company and what you do.

The Jewelry Edit is a curated collection of ethically made jewelry from diverse designers across the globe, aiming to move away from fast fashion and towards artisanship, individuality, and self-awareness. Among our missions at The Jewelry Edit is to uplift diverse designers and democratize the way consumers buy jewelry, empowering BIPOC and female designers and championing sustainable methods. In addition to building relationships and mentoring emerging designers and curating our selection of unique, sustainable pieces, I aim to educate consumers on how and where their jewelry is sourced from through storytelling, both at our New York City store and through our website.

What does BEING a FoundHer mean to you?

It means building networks with other women and being a mentor for other younger businesswomen

How do you support other female founders and women in business?

An important part of our mission at The Jewelry Edit is around elevating diverse voices. Part of executing this mission is to run mentorship programs, formal and informal to help break barriers for the next generation of diverse jewelers. I find this incredibly rewarding.

What lesson or skill did you take with you from a prior job to help you succeed in your role today?

Practicing law in New York gave me an important foundation to running my business. Apart from the obvious skills of being able to draft and negotiate contracts etc, being an effective communicator was something that I used in all aspects of my business. From meeting with buyers to working on sales, it was integral and definitely gave me an edge.

What are three strategies you use to market your business, grow brand awareness and generate bottom line growth?

Philanthropic partnerships, that allow me to support organizations I believe in and connect with likeminded people.

Mentoring emerging designers allows me to keep in touch with the next generation and see what different groups of customers are looking for. This also allows me to connect with larger groups of mentors and we all help each other.

Speaking engagements, from Prada to The Women Jewelers Association. I put together a lot of panels and presentations. This allows me to meet large audiences and different industry and corporate groups.
