In one sentence, what problem do you solve and for who?
I craft compelling photographs for brands so they can step out from their hiding spots and show off their beautiful spark, while also saving time and money.
What's your story? Share how you got to where you are and WHY it is you do what you do.
I have a background in painting and drawing, focusing on the human form. My personal art often began with my photographs. My art was a place for me to process my thoughts and feelings. It was a place for stories.
I worked in Chicago Public Schools for 11 years as an art teacher then school counselor. These personal stories of my students and others around me remained of such importance.
Through my own journey and as I witness the journeys of others, I find that people often come to the photo experience with personal insecurities and sticking points. I have also learned just how confidence boosting and soul filling a portrait session can be.
I have a huge heart. I think my clients see that and that becomes my super power. I have the ability to combine my creativity with my observations and feelings surrounding the people in front of me to draw out the beautiful spark in the person in front of my lens.
What does BEING a FoundHer mean to you?
For too long, women have been expected to work twice as hard and are judged by a different standard than men. My mission is to help change that through connecting with other women. It is my goal to amplify the voices of women by photographing their brand stories with honesty, strength, and intention. Together we are louder, stronger, and can create something huge.
How do you support other female founders and women in business?
I watch for ways I can be a connector between people and businesses. There is so much value to be found in being a community. I watch for ways that I can give and contribute. When I'm looking to hire someone, I always lean in towards other women-owned businesses.
What are three podcasts you listen to that have helped you with your business?
This Can't Be That Hard
Business-First Creatives
Professional Photographer
What are the first five things that you did when you were starting your business?
I was winging it. I honestly started my business because I needed a personal project outside of being mom. I knew I had to leave my full time career (and was burned out anyway), but needed something to give me an outlet.
What is something you do differently from the industry standard?
I really work to make each client experience personal. I invest a lot of myself personally into each session. It's often at the end of a session when I'm putting away my camera that I feel this rush of tired where I know it's time to go recharge.
What are three strategies you use to market your business, grow brand awareness and generate bottom line growth?
I use LinkedIn as my main social media avenue. I attend a few different networking groups and work to establish power partnerships. I also teach Phone-tography Workshops as a low cost touch point for people curious about the process of photography.
